Orune

On the edge of a granite plateau, dominating the plains of the Baronia, opening the view up to the Barbagia mountains, is the town of Orune.

The culture of Orune is synonymous with pastoralism in all its expressions.

Unfortunately, Orune has suffered over the years, in a serious way, the phenomenon of depopulation of inland areas, losing thousands of inhabitants.

Today the municipality kept 2200 inhabitants who have however kept a good part of their traditions, and among these the cantu a tenore.

Over the years, Sa moda orunesa has had exceptional, we could say almost mythical, interpreters: Vitoriedda, tziu Luminu, Pascale Piredda, to name a few. These singers made the history of cantu a tenore in Sardinia and not only in Orune.

The cantu a s'orunesa has always been one of the most popular in the world of Sardinian cantu a tenore singing, one of the most listened to and most imitated.

The singers and groups of Orune are called to sing in all the town festivals and probably there is no Sardinian town in which the Orune performer have not brought their repertoire.

In Orune, almost exclusively secular songs are sung. They are characterized by the guttural sound of bassu and contra and by a sweet and melismatic mesu boghe that accompanies the boghes da su traju sapiente of those who know how to lead on tenor: a boche ‘e notes, a boche 'e manzanile, a boche 'e ballu sèriu, a ballu lestru, a sa lizera and a mutos.
